Content posted on YouTube should comply with copyright rules but also Community Guidelines. There are also specific rules for children's content, it includes content for minors as well as contents appearing on YouTube Kids. If you own or manage a channel with contents for kids, Wizdeo reminds you of the rules to follow and the bad practices you should avoid.

In order to maintain a "family friendly" space on its platform, YouTube is reinforcing the examination of online-posted content. Contents from Kids channel are particularly concerned. In case of inappropriate Kids content, channels are demonetized or simply closed.

Wizdeo invites you to take a closer look at the new criteria:

 Unhealthy:

Some videos, under the guise of a childish universe, offer content addressing themes or situations that are not adapted to a young audience. When making a video, we invite you to keep in mind the age of your audience and adapt your content accordingly, so that it remains family-friendly content. Ambiguous or inappropriate content addressing to young audiences will be quickly demonetized or sanctioned.

Videos should not turn around scary themes: a video dedicated to children must be educational, creative or recreational.

Content Farming :

A tip for the Creators is to find a simple recipe that works. Some have followed this advice a bit too literally by repeating a very basic sequence on all his/her channel's videos, sometimes changing only the color of certain elements or details. This technique, designed to produce mass content very easily to monetize it, is called Content Farming. Therefore, it is important that each video posted on your channel is unique and not a systematic re-use of videos that you already posted on your channel.

Age of the Speakers :

The minimum age for a YouTube account is 13 in most countries. Therefore, even on Kids content, children below this age should not be major actors on the channel. If your channel has as major actor a person who is too young to have an account on the platform, the best is to adapt your programming accordingly, and to choose older speakers.

Spamming :

This rule is historically part of YouTube's guidelines. Duplicating a channel repeatedly to occupy all the space on the platform around a single keyword is not allowed. This is true even if the videos are not published at the same time or in a different order on each channel. This practice to monopolyze the maximum search results and suggestions, is a spamming technic: it is forbidden.

If you want to internationalize your content, you can use YouTube's metadata adaptation tools when uploading your videos to your original channel.

Fooding :

Channels highlighting (systematically or repeatedly) the consumption of sweets, candies or sodas are not considered suitable for a young audiences, and are also subject to increased vigilance on the platform. The overexposure of children to junk food and sweets, or unhealthy food, is therefore not tolerated and should be avoided as much as possible.

Community Strikes :

Reminder: Be aware that if you already received strikes for violating community rules, it could be a factor for the identification of your videos and favor YouTube's decision about your channel. We invite you to be even more cautious about the type of content you publish if your channel has already been the subject of one or more strikes of this type.

To conclude :

All of these rules must be respected on all your channel's video, not just the most recent ones. Previously published videos should be checked and deleted if they do not respect community rules and child-specific content rules.
