Objectives : reference your video and improve its ranking on the search engine results.
Metadata is essential for your videos referencing in the search engine algorithm and on the “related videos” page.
Include the most searched words on YouTube in the metadata of your video:
A good referencing involves the repetition of the most searched terms on YouTube, describing the content of the video:
-
In the TITLE
-
In the DESCRIPTION
-
In the KEYWORDS
Be careful with the use of erotic keywords in the title, it is often enough to seriously degrade the profitability of a video.
The following words should be avoided in titles, they reduce the monetization: sex, boobs, breast, nude...
Title :
Use in first the top searched words on YouTube and then other attractive words which are going to help you to customize your video.
Update and optimize your catalog regularly to be sure that your titles remain relevant and effective. It will increase the lifetime of your old videos.
The first 45 characters are decisive: the titles of more than 45 characters are not fully visible in the search results.
Description :
Use attractive words and context in first: these first words are those that will determine if the user wants to watch or not your video.
Only the first two lines of your description will appear in the list of search results. So use the most searched words/phrases on YouTube.
Use call to action such as links to your other videos, playlists, channels or links to your social networks pages.
Be really constant with your programming schedule (essential for serialized videos).
Present the used products (for "How to" videos)
Always repeat the title in the description.
Here is an example that you can customize and include in the beginning of your descriptions: “↓↓↓↓↓↓ READ THE DESCRIPTION. THANK YOU! ↓↓↓↓↓↓”
Tags :
Create a list of keywords regarding the themes of your channel which can be applied to your videos.
These keywords must be generic.
Mix the most searched words on YouTube with specific words of your videos.
Use only a few key words, it is the golden rule. Putting dozens of keywords would reduce the effectiveness of your important terms.
Always repeat the title in the tags. Like the title, update regularly your tags. Separate your keywords with a space and use quotation marks for a sentence.
How to verify the relevance of your metadata :
How to determine the quality of the referencing of a video, and thus the metadata you have to improve?
Once logged into your account, click on the "Insight" tab. Search for a video via the “Insight” search engine (left column).
Then click on "Discovery" and look at the position of "YouTube Search" in the source list. "YouTube search" should be in the top 3. *Click "YouTube Search" and:
- Look at the keywords or sentences which led to the video. Then check the ranking of the video in the research page of the keyword (by clicking on it). This will show you if your video is well referenced or not
- Once having selected interesting topics/keywords, inspect the metadata of the videos which appear in a better position than your videos for these terms.
- Deduce the necessary changes, and if you can, test them to see if they give you a better referencing
